AION 2 Best Solo Class — 8 Picks for Playing Alone

Are healers the worst AION 2 classes for solo play?
The aion 2 best solo class question has a completely different answer from the usual tier-list question, and on launch day it is the question more players are actually asking. NCSOFT answers the premise directly in the official Launch FAQ: “Can I play this game even if I have no one to play with?” — “Yes, AION 2 can be played solo or with friends!” The global service opened on October 5, 2026 at 13:00 UTC, so this is a ranking written against a live build, in its first full day.
This page ranks all eight launch classes by one standard only: can you play this alone, from level 1 to the Dungeons tab. It publishes no damage numbers, because launch day has not produced any, and it borrows nothing from the Korean and Taiwanese service beyond what is explicitly labelled as reference.
What does “best solo class” actually mean here?
Four questions, and only these four. A class that tops a group ranking can still be unplayable alone, because group value and solo feasibility are measured on different axes.
| Test | What it asks | Why it decides the ranking |
|---|---|---|
| Self-sufficiency | Does the class keep itself alive without a healer? Lifesteal, self-defence, mobility, or a summon | With no party, incoming damage is 100% your problem. Whoever has a sustain or an escape tool outlasts whoever does not |
| Tag killing | Can one player clear a pack of five mobs efficiently and safely over-level? | Leveling speed is a clear-speed problem, not a single-target problem, and solo it is the whole problem |
| Unbuffed speed | How fast does it level with no group buffs, no party XP bonus and no healer | Party content is tuned around five players, so solo you get none of that |
| Instance access | Can it enter and clear content alone once duties unlock at level 45 | Half of “playing alone” is whether the game lets you, not whether you can |
AION 2 best solo class — all eight ranked
1. Spiritmaster · 2. Ranger · 3. Templar · 4. Gladiator · 5. Assassin · 6. Sorcerer · 7. Chanter · 8. Cleric
| # | Class | Solo verdict | Decided by |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Spiritmaster | Best solo pick. Solo play is inside the official class identity, and a summon is a second actor that fights for you | Self-sufficiency: the summon |
| 2 | Ranger | Best if you want to level fast. Distance, kiting and traps decide where the fight happens, so survivability comes from never being where the hit lands | Self-sufficiency by geometry, plus the best ranged tag speed |
| 3 | Templar | Best if you want to survive things you cannot kill. The durability that makes it a party cornerstone is the biggest solo survival pool in the roster | Self-sufficiency: block and absorb |
| 4 | Gladiator | Genuinely good solo bruiser. Wide greatsword sweeps through packs and it can take the return damage, so over-leveling is realistic | AoE tag killing plus durability |
| 5 | Assassin | Survives by never being in the fight it does not want. Highest mobility and stealth in the roster, and the worst time-to-kill per pack | Self-rescue, but thin AoE and thin health |
| 6 | Sorcerer | Best raw AoE and control in the roster, which is exactly what solo tag killing needs — paid for with the lowest durability of the eight | AoE tag killing, minus any margin for error |
| 7 | Chanter | Works, but built for the wrong game. Auras buff allies near you; alone, the buffs have no target and the class is a melee support with wasted points | Nothing in the kit scales down to one player |
| 8 | Cleric | Worst solo pick. Healing other people is the entire kit, and there is nobody to heal | Zero self-sufficiency by design |
The two places this ranking disagrees with a group ranking
The healers do not sink because they are weak — they sink because their value is other players. A Cleric or Chanter finds a party faster than anything else in this roster; that is exactly the point. Played alone, a healer is a damage class with an unused skill bar. The class tier list ranks them near the top for group value, and this page puts them last for solo value. Neither ranking is wrong; they are answering different questions.
The tanks rise. A Templar is a poor damage class and a great solo survivor. What makes it hold a five-player group — standing in front and absorbing what nobody else can — is the same trait that lets one character over-level content. Same for the Gladiator, just with more area coverage and less health.
How solo-friendly is solo content in AION 2?
Solo play is a designed category, but the party ladder is what the game is tuned around. Both halves of that sentence are first-party.
- Solo dungeons exist as a format. The Steam store page states it plainly: “From solo instances to large-scale raids, AION 2 PvE is built around scale and variety. Over 200 dungeons span multiple formats: solo challenges, 5-player party content, and 10-player group dungeons.”
- Duties are gated behind level 45. Both the Advanced Access known-issues notice and the October 4 maintenance notice describe the Dungeons (Journal — Duty) tab unlocking at level 45. There is also a live bug worth knowing on day one: if you open the Duty tab before level 45, you will not get that content until the following day. Do not peek at it early.
- Bosses are tuned for five. The October 4 launch maintenance raised the stats of some bosses because they were “currently set too low for the intended difficulty of a five-player party.” Read that as a difficulty increase on the very first day of the global service, and read it as a statement about which bracket the game designs for.
- No progress carries over. The Launch FAQ confirms that KR/TW characters and levels do not transfer to global, so KR/TW clear-speed figures cannot be inherited here — see global vs KR/TW differences.
The dungeon list tracks the four officially named dungeons and their entry rules; the dungeon entry and Odyle Energy guide covers what actually gates a run once you are eligible.
How fast do these classes level with no party buffs?
There is no measured answer yet, and this page will not pretend otherwise. The global build has been live for under a day, and no class has a published solo clear-speed figure on it. On mechanics alone the split is obvious even without a stopwatch: the Spiritmaster, Gladiator and Sorcerer convert a pull into kills quickly; the Templar and Cleric convert it slowly; the Ranger and Assassin sit in between, and the Chanter is limited by having nothing to buff.
What changes solo leveling speed is the route, not just the class. The leveling guide covers the confirmed structure — story and regional quests, and the level bands where grinding takes over — while the fact that duties unlock at 45 caps how early solo instances can matter at all.
How to test solo viability yourself
Three in-game checks, no theory required. These are the same methods the damage meter guide covers.
| What you want to know | How to get it |
|---|---|
| Your real sustained damage on a class | Combat Analysis, Ctrl+X on PC. Switch between auto, single-target and multi-target mode — multi-target is the mode that predicts tag killing |
| Whether you can survive a pull one level above you | Hit the training dummy and, more usefully, pull real mobs two levels up in an open field and watch whether your health moves at all between casts |
| How your class actually compares, class against class | The Transcendence leaderboard, reachable at ESC > Transcendence > Rank > Class. It is an in-game leaderboard split by class, running October 5 to November 2 on Deus Research Base and Shattered Arkanis |
That leaderboard is worth one caveat: it ranks group dungeon performance, not solo performance. It answers “is my class keeping up”, not “can I do this alone”. Use it for the first question and your own two test runs for the second.
How this page differs from the AION 2 class tier list
Same eight classes, opposite question, deliberately different answers. The class tier list ranks a class by what it contributes to a five-player group — and it states explicitly that no verified global ranking existed before launch, because nobody outside the Korean and Taiwanese service had played the retail global build. That gap is now closed for the questions that can be answered on day one, and this page closes a different one: not “who is strongest” but “who can function with nobody”.
| Class tier list | This page | |
|---|---|---|
| Question answered | What is this class worth inside a group | Can you play this class with no group |
| Healer / support placement | High — every instance needs them | Last — their kit has no solo target |
| Tank placement | Mid — valued for the role, not for solo output | High — durability is solo survival |
| Evidence standard | Group-value ranking on the live build | Mechanical read of self-sufficiency, label by label |
| Damage figures | None published | None published |
Sources and verification
Everything quoted above was read on October 6, 2026 from first-party sources — NCSOFT’s own Steam news feed and store page — or carried from an existing page of this site, which is named where it is used. No KR/TW figure is presented as a global one.
- Steam store page, AppID 3393110, read via the Steam appdetails API on Oct 6, 2026 — release date “5 Oct, 2026” with
coming_soon: false, and the “over 200 dungeons… solo challenges, 5-player party content, and 10-player group dungeons” wording - Steam news, AppID 3393110 — “AION 2 Will Launch On Time” (Oct 5, 12:48 UTC, “6:00AM PDT / 15:00 CEST”) and “Launch Into AION 2 Now!” (Oct 5, 13:00 UTC), the live-launch moment
- Steam news, “Launch FAQ” (Sep 30, 13:27 UTC) — the “Can I play this game even if I have no one to play with?” answer, the no-KR/TW-progress-carryover line, confirmed regions (North America, South America, Europe, Japan), Steam and Purple sharing servers, and the free-to-play model with an optional membership and Battle Pass
- Steam news, “Scheduled Maintenance Sun Oct 4 / Mon Oct 5” (Oct 4, 11:43 UTC) — Advanced Access ending, commercial launch beginning, boss stats raised because they were “set too low for the intended difficulty of a five-player party”, and the level 45 Duty tab behaviour
- Steam news, “Advanced Access Known Issues (Updated: 10/4)” (Oct 3, 07:33 UTC) — the same level 45 Duty tab gate stated as a known issue
- Steam news, “Community Launch Events Overview” (Sep 30, 20:18 UTC) — Transcendence Dungeon leaderboard, its class-split ranking at ESC > Transcendence > Rank > Class, participating dungeons and dates
- Steam news, “New Server and Matchmaking Information” (Oct 4, 08:34 UTC) — one faction per server, Region then Faction then server selection
- NCSOFT global site, aion2.plaync.com — reachable on Oct 6, 2026, but its class copy is rendered client-side and did not return readable text to a plain fetch. The statement that solo play is part of the official Spiritmaster identity is therefore carried as cited in this site’s Spiritmaster guide, not re-read from the official page here
- Class roles, weapons and difficulty reads follow the confirmed global eight-class roster: Templar, Gladiator, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric, Chanter, per the classes overview. Brawler exists on the Korean and Taiwanese service only and is not ranked here
Evidence level: Official for the launch facts, dungeon formats, the level 45 duty gate and the solo-play FAQ answer. Editorial for the ranking itself. The eight placements are a mechanical reading — self-sufficiency, AoE coverage, unbuffed clear speed and instance access — not a measurement, and the page says so where it matters. No DPS figure, clear time, survival rating or tier label from any third-party site is reproduced here.
