AION 2 Outfits and Wardrobe — Cosmetics, Dye and Skins
AION 2's outfit system skins individual slots and dyes up to four colour zones. Here is what is official, what is KR/TW, and the Founder's Pack skins.

Was the wardrobe available during the AION 2 Launch Scale Test?
AION 2 ships with one of the loudest cosmetic pitches in the genre — Steam promises “countless outfits, mounts, and wings to collect” — but the detail behind that phrase is split awkwardly. The shape of the system is regional, the global rules are thin, and the one global event that exercised it was a twelve-hour stress test. This page sorts the outfit layer into what NCSOFT has said, what the Korea and Taiwan build shows, and what nobody has announced for October 5.
What the outfit system does
It separates what your character looks like from what your character is wearing. The gear you fight in and the appearance you present are two layers: you apply a skin to a slot, and the numbers underneath stay unchanged. That is why the community treats the wardrobe as a transmog track rather than one costume you toggle on.
NCSOFT’s global line is that cosmetics are a headline category, not an add-on. The Steam store description promises “countless outfits, mounts, and wings to collect”, and the official global teaser site describes companions that follow you, transform into rideable mounts and provide benefits such as auto-looting. What the same material does not do is explain how outfits are stored, applied or paid for in the global client.
The only global build anyone outside NC has touched was the Launch Scale Test on September 17–18, 2026, and its notes show the closet was part of the product. The August 26 announcement read “Closet will be disabled. Default outfits only”, announcements from September 16 dropped that line, and Wardrobe and Character Customization were later added to the test. A feature disabled for load testing is evidence it exists, not evidence of its launch rules.
How does per-slot skinning and the Wardrobe work?
| Slot group | Slots named by community guides | How they are obtained |
|---|---|---|
| Standard (in-game) | Head, shoulders, top, bottom, gloves, shoes, cloak, weapons, earrings, necklaces | Normal gameplay, extraction and synthesis |
| Special (paid / event) | Eye decoration, face decoration, shoulder ornament | Cash shop, battle passes, events |
The wardrobe works slot by slot, not as one head-to-toe costume. You apply an appearance to an individual equipment slot and mix pieces freely, instead of equipping one outfit that overwrites everything. Community guides of the Korea and Taiwan build describe ten standard slots that are earnable in play, plus a small set of decorative slots that are shop- and event-bound. Everything in the table above is KR/TW reference or secondary reporting, not a global confirmation.
Two structural notes sit on top of the slot list. First, cosmetics carry no combat stats of their own in the announced global plan — the appearance is the product, and the gear underneath keeps its numbers. Second, because the slots are independent, the practical limit on your look is not one outfit but how many individual pieces you own across those ten slots. A community post from u4n that counted them puts the Korea/Taiwan total at over 128 outfits and armour sets, and that figure is reported, not official.
How do dye and recolouring work?
Dyeing sits on top of skinning, so one piece can be repainted without changing what it is. Community coverage of the Korea and Taiwan build describes several independent colour zones per outfit, material textures such as metal and leather, and pattern overlays. One developer summary said dyes are charged per clothing item, not per zone. KR/TW reference.
The cost side is where honesty is required. One secondary guide reports a fixed premium-coin price per slot for standard recolouring and limited-time discount events that halve it; we could not locate a first-party global notice for any of that, so treat the price, the currency, and even the existence of coin-charged dye in the global client as not announced. What is safe to say is narrower: dye and recolouring were shown in the Korea/Taiwan build, and the global build had a wardrobe during the scale test. The rest arrives, or does not, on October 5.
How do free outfits compare with shop skins?
| Outfit source | Scope | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| In-game drops, quests and extraction | Feeds the wardrobe collection | KR/TW reference / secondary |
| Duplicate-skin synthesis | Rolls for a higher rarity tier | KR/TW reference / secondary |
| Cash shop, sold on rotation | Appearance only; guides say it does not count toward the collection | Secondary, not announced for global |
| Founder’s Pack skin sets | Named, Bound cosmetics in the tiers | Official — NCSOFT teaser site |
The honest split is not free versus paid — it is collectible versus shop-exclusive. Secondary coverage draws the line in the same place: outfits you earn or extract in play feed the wardrobe collection, while cash-shop outfits are sold on rotation and, per multiple community guides, do not count toward that collection. That distinction only matters if the collection carries progression value, which is the question two sections down.
The rarity bands that organise this are regional too. Community guides list five tiers — common, green, blue, unique and heroic — and describe extraction of spare gear as the main way to unlock a look, with duplicate synthesis as the way to push a skin up a tier. None of those names, odds or tiers is published for the global build. A Founder’s Pack is currently the only way to know exactly which cosmetics a global player can own on day one, because it is the only outfit list NCSOFT has itemised.
Do cosmetics share across characters?
Community reporting says yes, but this is the kind of rule that changes with a patch. Players on the Korea and Taiwan service have quoted wardrobe patch notes saying costumes are now shared with all characters, and other answers describe cosmetics as account-wide. If that carries to global, one unlocked skin would work account-wide — reported, not announced for global.
One related detail is worth banking. A community thread answering Founder’s Pack questions describes a separate wardrobe menu with three armour and weapon presets that can be switched freely and at no cost. That is a loadout convenience rather than a sharing rule, and it is unconfirmed for the global client. Until NC publishes its cross-character cosmetics policy, the conservative assumption is the safer one: budget for cosmetics per character, and be pleasantly surprised if the account-wide rule globalises.
What skins come with the Founder’s Pack?
If you want a guaranteed outfit at launch, the Founder’s Packs are the only fully itemised route. NCSOFT’s official global teaser site lists the cosmetic items in all three tiers, and every one of them is marked Bound. The Founder’s Pack comparison holds the complete table; the cosmetic lines are these:
- Standard ($24.99) — no skins. It carries the five-day access window, a supply chest, a title and a 30-day membership.
- Deluxe ($49.99) — adds the Ascended Daeva skin set and the Eternal Sun weapon skin chest.
- Ultimate ($99.99) — adds a Daeva’s Styling Chest, the Moonlit Aria skin set and the cosmetic Blazing Sun Wings.
The cumulative structure is NCSOFT’s own: the listings print “+AION 2 Standard Founder’s Pack” under Deluxe and “+AION 2 Deluxe Founder’s Pack” under Ultimate. The labels are worth reading literally. Nothing in the pack list carries a stat value, which is consistent with NC’s stated position on the shop, and the Bound tag means these cosmetics do not enter the player market. The wings guide covers the one wing pair that is confirmed globally.
How do cosmetics feed into monetization?
A cosmetic shop is the announced global plan, and NC’s framing keeps appearance and power apart. NC’s business model notice of July 8, 2026 describes a shop built around cosmetics and consumables, states that sales “do not affect gear progression or long-term power”, and adds a Kina-and-Quna split plus an optional membership. No announced item carries stats.
The edge case is where cosmetics stop being purely visual. Secondary guides of the Korea and Taiwan build report that filling the wardrobe collection also grants Collection Effects and Titles with passive stat boosts, and that some of those bonuses scale into the late game. That claim sits alongside, rather than against, NC’s statement, because the two are about different things: NC’s line covers what you buy, and the reported bonuses come from what you collect in play. Neither has been confirmed for the global client. The pay to win and free to play page tracks the structure that actually decides the question, and the Kina and Quna guide covers the currency a wardrobe purchase would use.

Evidence level: Official for the core model, secondary and KR/TW for every system detail. NCSOFT’s own store page, teaser site and business model notice establish that cosmetics are a core category, that the shop is cosmetic and consumable, and exactly which skins the Founder’s Packs contain. Slot names, dye zones, rarity bands, extraction and synthesis rules, collection bonuses and cross-character sharing all come from secondary or Korea/Taiwan sources and are labelled where they appear; none is presented as a global rule. Items marked not announced were checked against those sources on September 24, 2026.
