AION 2 Most Played Classes: Global Popularity Data
Which classes do players actually pick on the global servers? Early popularity reports ranked, and why pick rate tells a different story than a tier list.
FAQ
Which is the most played AION 2 class on the global servers?
Is there official AION 2 class population data?
Which class is the least played in AION 2 right now?
Does a popular class mean it is a strong class?
What is the most played class in Korea and Taiwan?
The most played class on AION 2’s global servers is Gladiator — that is the one point both independent popularity reports from the first week of global service agree on, with Cleric and Spiritmaster also near the top and Assassin at the bottom. NCSOFT publishes no class population figures at all, so every number here comes from third-party trackers reading the game between October 5 and October 9, 2026 — and they disagree with each other in ways that turn out to be the most useful part of the picture. This page ranks what those reports say, shows why pick rate answers a different question from a tier list, and labels every figure with the service it came from.

Which class is the most played on the global servers right now?
Gladiator, on the only two reports that rank the full global roster. A popularity ranking published on October 9, 2026 places Gladiator first, with Cleric second, Spiritmaster third and Ranger fourth; a separate video analysis released on October 6, 2026 — which states plainly that its numbers are unofficial and stitched from several sources — also puts Gladiator in the number one spot and describes Cleric and Chanter as popular across the board.
| Rank | Class | Role | What the early reports say |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Gladiator | Melee DPS / off-tank | Top of both October reports. The greatsword fantasy plus off-tank flexibility makes it the default pick for players who want damage and survivability in one slot |
| 2 | Cleric | Healer | Second in the October 9 ranking; called “very popular across the board” on October 6. Early-access numbers had it lower, then it climbed after the free opening |
| 3 | Spiritmaster | Summoner / magic DPS | The biggest global-vs-Korea gap in the roster — nearly matching Cleric’s presence on global servers while sitting last in both Korea and Taiwan |
| 4 | Ranger | Ranged physical DPS | The most common ranged pick, present in most casual groups; it is the number one class in Korea, not on global |
| 5 | Chanter | Hybrid support | Fifth on the October 9 sample; its representation on damage logs runs slightly higher than its real population |
| 6 | Sorcerer | Ranged magic DPS | Lower than most players expected — punished by fragile defences and burst windows that bosses waste by teleporting or phasing |
| 7 | Templar | Main tank | Second lowest. The report links this directly to a growing tank shortage as groups move into harder content |
| 8 | Assassin | Melee burst DPS | Bottom of the observed ranking — and simultaneously the top name on damage-log websites, which is the contradiction this page unpicks below |
Two hard caveats sit on top of that table. Neither report publishes its sample size, its collection method or a single percentage — one is a marketplace news post, the other a creator’s cross-source estimate that opens with a chapter titled “Non-Official Numbers”. Both were published within five days of launch, and the free-to-play wave only arrived on October 5, so alts and rerolls had barely started when the first numbers were taken. Treat the order as direction, not verdict.
What do the different popularity numbers actually measure?
Four different things, which is why they give four different answers. No two of these sources are counting the same population, so quoting one against another without saying what it measured is how a “most played” list becomes wrong.
| Source | Published | What it actually counts | What it said |
|---|---|---|---|
| Observed-play ranking (third-party marketplace guide) | October 9, 2026 | Unstated sample of players observed across global servers | Gladiator, Cleric, Spiritmaster, Ranger, Chanter, Sorcerer, Templar, Assassin |
| Cross-source creator analysis, explicitly labelled non-official | October 6, 2026 | An estimate combined from several partial data sources | Gladiator #1; Cleric and Chanter “very popular across the board” |
| Pre-launch intent poll of almost 1,000 players | October 4, 2026 | What players said they would play, one day before launch | Cleric #1, Chanter a very close #2, Ranger #3, Gladiator #4 |
| Armory sample: top 1,000 characters by combat power out of 145,000 level-45 characters tracked | October 2026 | The geared elite, not the average player | Sorcerer 14.8%, Assassin 14.1%, Gladiator 13.7%, Chanter 12.9%, Spiritmaster 12.3%, Ranger 12.2%, Templar 10.1%, Cleric 9.9% |
| Character-builder site share, posted to r/Aion2 | Launch week | Characters created through build-planning tools | Ranger 17.1% at the top, then Cleric 13.2%, Gladiator 12.4%, Chanter 12.4%, Templar 11.1% |
Read down that table and the disagreements stop being noise. The pre-launch poll measured intent and put the healer first; the observed ranking measured who actually logged in and put a bruiser first. The armory sample measures the top 1,000 characters by gear score, which is why its top two — Sorcerer and Assassin — are the two classes that fall in the bottom half of the observed-play ranking: strong performers climb, popular casuals do not. The builder-site share counts people planning builds, which skews toward a class that is fun to theorycraft. Same eight classes, five instruments, five answers — and the honest summary is that the third-party tracker FAQ line fits: there is no official global population ranking, and large trackers currently disagree.
Why does pick rate tell a different story from a tier list?
Because a tier list ranks what a class is worth in a group, and pick rate ranks what people chose — and the early data shows them pointing in opposite directions three separate ways.
Assassin is last in population and first on the meters. The observed ranking puts Assassin at the bottom of real play, yet damage-log websites show it as by far the most represented class, followed by Ranger, Chanter, Spiritmaster and Sorcerer. The October 6 analysis gives the mechanism: log sites are opt-in, and the players who voluntarily upload parses are damage dealers chasing a number — tanks and healers rarely submit anything. A parse leaderboard therefore measures who bothers to measure, not who exists. The damage meter guide covers the in-game tool behind those self-checks.
Gladiator is first in population and weak on damage. The October 9 report’s own explanation for the #1 spot is the fantasy — the massive greatsword, the forgiving floor, a class that fills a random party without needing perfect positioning. Meanwhile the launch-week global damage meters (October 2026) put Sorcerer and Assassin at the top of the DPS charts and place Gladiator low on personal damage: it is picked for durability and flexibility, not output.
Templar is seventh and still short in supply. The ranking ties Templar’s low pick rate directly to a tank shortage in harder content, because an off-tank Gladiator covers the slot well enough in easy and mid-tier runs, so most players skip the dedicated tank. Popular and in-demand are two different scarcities — the healer and tank seats stay open even when their classes are not the ones everybody is making.
That is the whole distinction in one sentence: the class tier list answers what a class contributes to a five-player group, and it still states that no verified global ranking existed before the servers opened; this page answers what people picked. Neither number replaces the other, and a page that merges them into one “best class” column is counting two things at once.
How different is global popularity from Korea and Taiwan?
Different enough that the number one class flips, and the number eight class flips with it. Korea and Taiwan have run their own service since November 19, 2025 — a separate build with its own balance and roughly ten months of patches — so its population data describes that service only, and no progress carries over to global.
A community-posted Korean server snapshot dated January 15, 2026 for characters at item level 3000+ gives this order:
| Rank | Class | Share of the Korean snapshot (item level 3000+, Jan 15, 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ranger | 18% |
| 2 | Cleric | 15% |
| 3 | Gladiator | 15% |
| 4 | Templar | 13% |
| 5 | Sorcerer | 11% |
| 6 | Assassin | 11% |
| 7 | Chanter | 9% |
| 8 | Spiritmaster | 4% |
Two flips matter for anyone using these numbers to pick a class. Spiritmaster is last in both Korea and Taiwan — averaging under 5% of characters in both regions — yet third on the early global ranking, which the October 9 report reads as a genuine regional preference for summoner archetypes on Western servers. Ranger is the outright most played class in Korea and only fourth on global. The rest of the difference is quieter but real: Templar sits fourth in Korea and seventh on global, while the two support classes trade places in the other direction. What carries across is only the structural part — healers and tanks are wanted everywhere — and the global vs KR/TW differences page explains why region-specific numbers cannot be transplanted.
Is there an official class population number?
No, and there is no hidden one either. NCSOFT has released no class distribution, no pick-rate table and no population figure for the global service — the same absence that leaves world population unreadable, as the server population page documents in detail. In the days around launch, the top thread asking about class population on r/Aion2 opened with the observation that no stats of that kind exist yet, and the only numbers in its replies were the Korean snapshot above, reposted as a reference.
So the practical answer is to read what is readable on your own server: how long the group finder makes you wait for a tank or a healer, which classes fill your dungeon groups, and what your own combat analysis shows. For the last one, the damage meter guide covers Combat Analysis (Ctrl+X) and its modes; for overall crowding rather than class mix, the Steam charts page explains why even the player-count charts only see the Steam half of the population, since PURPLE launcher players never appear in them.
What should you do with these numbers?
Pick on the axis you actually care about, and use the popularity data only for that. Three rules cover every case:
- You want a group fast. Healer and support seats stay open even when those classes are popular — Cleric is both one of the most played classes and the only healer, which means demand and competition coexist. The class tier list works through the same question from the strength side.
- You want the strongest class. Popularity cannot tell you. Gladiator is picked first and lands low on launch-week damage charts; Assassin is picked last and tops the log sites. Strength readings need measured content, and the classes overview covers role and weapon before any ranking claims.
- You want to play alone. Pick rate says nothing about solo viability either — that is a separate ranking entirely, and the best solo class page ranks all eight on self-sufficiency instead of on how many people chose them.
The honest bottom line: early popularity data is a week old, unverified and inconsistent between sources, and it is still the best window available into what global players are actually rolling. Use it to understand demand and regional taste — not as a verdict on which class wins.
Sources and verification
Every figure above was read on October 10, 2026 from the third-party page or community thread named with it. Nothing on this page is an official NCSOFT statistic, because none exists; where a number could only come from the Korean or Taiwanese service it is labelled as such and never presented as global.
- Observed global popularity ranking, third-party marketplace news page, published October 9, 2026 — the 1–8 order in the first table, the regional reading (Spiritmaster popular globally, Ranger top in Korea/Taiwan), and the tank-shortage explanation for Templar. Sample size and method are not stated by the source
- Cross-source class popularity analysis, DrybearGamers video, published October 6, 2026 — the “Non-Official Numbers” framing, Gladiator in the number one spot, Cleric and Chanter strong after early access, Spiritmaster averaging under 5% in both Korea and Taiwan, and the opt-in bias explanation for why damage dealers dominate log sites
- Pre-launch intent poll, Society Of Gaming video, published October 4, 2026 — a poll of almost 1,000 players: Cleric first, Chanter a very small margin behind, Ranger third, Gladiator fourth
- Armory top-1,000 class distribution and the 145,000 level-45 character sample, quoted in a third-party October 2026 tier-list page — the combat-power distribution table, which the source itself flags as an estimate because “there is no official Global population ranking” and trackers disagree
- Character-builder site share, posted to r/Aion2 during launch week — Ranger 17.1%, Cleric 13.2%, Gladiator 12.4%, Chanter 12.4%, Templar 11.1% (the top of the list as published)
- Korean server class snapshot, community comment on r/Aion2 quoting a January 15, 2026 Korean-server dataset at item level 3000+ — the Ranger-led table above. Marked KR reference: a different service, a different build, not a global figure
- Launch-week damage meter readings, third-party tier-list page updated October 2026 — Sorcerer and Assassin at the top of early global DPS charts, Gladiator low on personal damage
- Launch facts (global service opened October 5, 2026; KR/TW service running since November 19, 2025; eight-class roster) match this site’s classes overview and global vs KR/TW differences pages
Evidence level: Unconfirmed for every popularity figure — all of it is third-party, none of it is official, and the sources disagree. Official for the launch dates and the roster; KR reference for the Korean snapshot. No pick-rate percentage on this page is presented as a measured server statistic, and no source is quoted beyond what it published.
