FAQ

What is a training dummy in AION 2?
Players searching for a training dummy mean the Training Scarecrow, a normal Varian monster in AION 2 that never fights back and exists so you can try skills, chains and rotations on a stationary target. Community databases list it as a non-aggressive normal monster, and the built-in Combat Analysis tool recognises it as a supported target for automatic damage testing.
Where is the closest training dummy for a new character?
It sits in your faction starting area. Elyos characters find Training Scarecrows at Dawn Legion Base in Verteron, and Asmodian characters find them at Safe Haven in Altgard. Community databases also list spawns at Lacephin Village and the Quai merchants storage area in Altgard, with around sixteen marked spawn points between them.
Do training dummies exist at higher levels?
Yes. Scarecrows are not only a starting-zone object — databases list mid-level and endgame variants, including a level 74 Training Scarecrow in the Ferocious Horn Den area. Higher-zone scarecrows exist so max-level characters can measure a full rotation without lowering their damage through level-scaling.
Why would I test on a scarecrow instead of a real monster?
A scarecrow gives you a repeatable test. Real monsters die, move, dodge or kill you back, which makes one rotation impossible to compare against another. On a scarecrow, the only variable is your input, so you can measure whether a skill order, macro or gear change actually raised your damage.

A lot of players arrive in AION 2 from other MMOs looking for the training dummy — the stationary punching bag you whack in town to test a new rotation. The game has one, but it is not called that. The targets you want are Training Scarecrows, and finding the right one matters more than it sounds, because AION 2 spread them across faction hubs and level bands instead of parking one next to the bank in each capital.

What is a training dummy in AION 2?

A Training Scarecrow is a normal, non-aggressive Varian monster that exists purely to be hit. Community databases classify it as a Varian-type normal monster with an aggression radius of effectively zero: it does not fight back, it does not move, and it does not die in any way that matters to your testing. That is the entire point — it is a measurement tool shaped like a monster.

Two things make it different from whacking a random mob. First, it never retaliates, so a bad pull cannot interrupt your test. Second, and less obvious, the game’s built-in Combat Analysis window treats scarecrows as supported targets: in the auto-analysis mode, recording starts by itself the moment you attack one. AION 2 was clearly built with rotation-testing on scarecrows in mind, which is why the topic spiked in search the week the global service added the analysis tool.

Where to find a Training Scarecrow

The nearest scarecrow is in your faction’s starting base. You do not need to travel to a capital or unlock anything. Community monster databases agree on the following spawns:

Faction Area Zone Notes
Elyos Dawn Legion Base Verteron Starting base; several scarecrows near the practice area
Asmodian Safe Haven Altgard Starting base; the Asmodian mirror of the above
Both Lacephin Village Starting zones Listed spawn cluster
Asmodian Quai Merchants Temporary Storage Altgard Listed with the Altgard spawn set

Databases count roughly sixteen marked spawn points across these hubs, so on a busy server you may need to walk a few seconds to a free one. Scarecrows are shared world objects, but they do not despawn through use — you will never queue for one the way you queue for a resource node.

Scarecrows exist at every level band

The starting-base scarecrows are low level, and higher-zone variants exist so endgame characters can test without level-scaling fuzzing the numbers. Databases list a level 10 variant around the starting bases, a level 16 variant in the Altgard area, and endgame variants such as a level 74 Training Scarecrow around the Ferocious Horn Den.

This matters for one specific reason: AION 2 scales damage against level differences. If you test a level 45 rotation on a level 10 scarecrow, part of what you measure is the level gap, not your build. When you compare two builds seriously, use the highest-level scarecrow your character can reach, and use the same scarecrow for both tests.

How to actually test a rotation on one

Open Combat Analysis, pick a mode, then run the rotation three times and keep the middle result. The practical loop looks like this:

  1. Stand at the scarecrow, open the Combat Analysis window with Ctrl + X and confirm auto-analysis mode is selected — recording then starts when you attack a supported target.
  2. Run your rotation exactly as you would in a dungeon, including skill chains and any pre-buffs, and stop recording when the loop completes.
  3. Read the per-skill breakdown, change exactly one thing — a skill order, a macro delay, one gear piece — and repeat.
  4. Discard your first run after any change; it is warm-up, not data.

Testing one variable at a time is what makes the scarecrow worth using. Swapping a weapon and a rotation together tells you the combination worked, not which part contributed. If you want the full breakdown of what the analysis window records, the damage meter guide covers every statistic in detail.

Common mistakes when testing on scarecrows

Mistake What it does to your numbers
Testing on a much lower-level scarecrow Level-scaling skews crit and penetration behaviour; the DPS is not representative
Standing in a crowd of other players’ AoE Buffs and external effects can bleed into the log; pick a quiet spawn
Comparing a 10-second burst to a 60-second rotation Short windows overweight openers; always compare equal-length loops
Forgetting consumables or pre-buffs on the second run The comparison silently measures your buff uptime, not your build

None of these break the game — they just make the test meaningless. The scarecrow’s whole value is that everything except your input is constant, so protect that constant.

What this page replaces

There is no quest, object or NPC officially named “training dummy” in AION 2 — if you found this page searching that phrase, the Training Scarecrow is the tool you were looking for, and it has existed on the KR/TW service since before the global Early Access opened on September 30, 2026. For where damage numbers come from once you leave the scarecrow behind, the classes overview and the class tier list put individual rotations in context.

Sources and verification

  • Training Scarecrow classification as a normal Varian monster, level 10 with marked spawns at Dawn Legion Base, Safe Haven and Lacephin Village — metabot.gg and aion2.th.gl bestiary entries, cross-checked October 4, 2026
  • Level 16 Altgard variant at Quai Merchants Temporary Storage — wikily.gg monster page
  • Level 74 variant in the Ferocious Horn Den area — dbaion2.ru NPC database
  • Combat Analysis auto-mode triggering on Training Scarecrows, and the Ctrl + X open shortcut — Game8’s Combat Analysis guide, October 2026, matching the live global client
  • The name “Training Scarecrow” as the in-game term — consistent across all four independent databases above; no source names any object “training dummy”

Evidence level: Official-adjacent for the in-game term and the Combat Analysis behaviour (both verifiable in the live client); community-database for the exact spawn points and levels, which are player-scraped and may lag behind patches. Spawn counts are a snapshot, not a guarantee — patches move objects, databases follow.
