What are the AION 2 preload, Advance Access, and free-to-play dates?

Three dates decide your download: the pre-download opened September 28, Advance Access runs September 30 to October 4, and free-to-play opens October 5 on PC. What the pre-load is not is access. It copies the client onto your drive, installed and patched, while the servers are still shut — its whole purpose is to move a multi-gigabyte download off the critical path so that when servers do open you press Play and you are in (timesaver.gg).

What time did the AION 2 preload start in my time zone?

6:00 AM Pacific on September 28 is 9:00 AM Eastern, 2:00 PM UK, 3:00 PM Central Europe, 9:00 PM Beijing, and 10:00 PM Korea and Japan. Every one of those is still September 28 — the Asian windows land late in the evening on the same day, not on the 29th.

The rows come from two independent time-zone tables — timesaver.gg’s six-zone version and lagzapper.com’s seven-zone version, which adds Beijing Time and JST. They agree on every zone they share, and both derive from the same 13:00 UTC anchor.

Can I preload AION 2 without buying a Founder’s Pack?

Probably not on the 28th: the pre-load is tied to Advance Access, which requires a Founder’s Pack. Every report that covers eligibility frames it the same way, and a player in the r/Aion2 announcement thread put it in one line: “Please note it’s for Early Access not for global.”

Whether free players get a pre-load window of their own is genuinely unresolved as of September 30, 2026, so it is not worth guessing. The preload gets the files; the server open lets you in. A finished preload leaves an installed and patched client sitting on your drive with the Play button still locked, because the servers are not accepting logins yet. That locked button is the expected state, not a fault.

NCSOFT has not published the server-open hour for either September 30 or October 5, and that is still true as of September 30, 2026. timesaver.gg makes the same point and warns specifically against the “servers open at X” figures circulating on seller blogs: if NCSOFT has not said it, it is a guess. So the honest state of play is pre-load time known, server-open time not.

How do I download AION 2?

Two official channels distribute the global client: Steam and the NCSOFT PURPLE launcher. On Steam the game is AppID 3393110 (store page). PURPLE is NCSOFT’s own launcher, downloaded from the official global site at aion2.plaync.com. Both are PC-only clients confirmed for launch, and both are serving the preload as of September 28, 2026.

There is no third official source. The global launch is PC only — no console or mobile client has been announced — so any download offered outside those two channels is not an official build. If you already own a Founder’s Pack, your choice between them is not free: entitlement follows the storefront of purchase, which is the platform lock described below.

Yes, if you played the Launch Scale Test on Steam. 3. Open the regular AION 2 store page and install the retail client once the preload is live.
4. If you are on PURPLE, do nothing. NCSOFT says there are no further steps and the launcher handles the rest.

The test client is a different application from the retail game, which is why a working test install does not carry over. How do I preload AION 2 on the PURPLE launcher?

Install PURPLE PC, sign in, and use Pre-Installation on the game’s store page. NCSOFT says PURPLE players need no extra steps after the test — the launcher surfaces AION 2 for download on its own, so unlike Steam there is no separate test app to clear out first.

1. Download and install PURPLE PC for Windows from the official site, then open the launcher.
2. Sign in with the NC account tied to your Founder’s Pack.
3. Go to STORE > AION 2 and open the game’s page.
4. Select Pre-Installation, choose your installation location, and let the download run.
5. Leave your existing install alone. PURPLE already used the regular client during the test, so there is nothing to uninstall or re-download.

Should I use Steam or the PURPLE launcher?

How much disk space does AION 2 need?

No — 100 GB is the space the finished install needs, not the size of the download you pull during the preload. NCSOFT has not published a retail client file size, so the official Steam sheet’s 100 GB plus “SSD recommended” is the only storage number that comes from the publisher.

As of September 30, 2026, Game8 reports the PC preload at around 81.62 GB while recommending 100+ GB on release. Nobody at NCSOFT has published a number — timesaver.gg says it in one line, that the publisher has not published a file size for the retail build — and lagzapper.com’s table records the exact playtest download size as “Not officially announced”. Treat 81.62 GB as a third-party estimate, not a specification, and clear 100 GB plus headroom anyway.

How does the 100 GB install size connect to the official PC specs?

The 100 GB row is a floor measured against a finished, patched client, not a download size — and both spec tiers quote the same number. That makes storage the least informative line in the table: it cannot tell you whether a machine runs the game or merely installs it.

Both tiers ask for the same 100 GB, so storage alone tells you nothing about how the game will run on your machine — the CPU, memory, and graphics rows do. The striking detail is in the fine print: even the recommended tier is told to run at the Low preset at 1080p, and the minimum tier at Very Low, which reads as a compatibility target rather than a smooth-experience promise.

Plan the install and the settings together. Put the client on an SSD rather than a mechanical drive, keep headroom above 100 GB for patch staging and caches, and if your hardware sits near the minimum row, expect Very Low at 1080p from day one rather than discovering it on launch night. What should you do before Advance Access starts?

Four things still pay off before September 30: create the NC account, claim the pack on the account you will play, check your hardware, and settle a faction and class. None shortens the download, but each removes a decision or an account-creation queue from launch day. The newsletter is the fifth, and the only one that pays anything.

Set up the account before the window opens

Create the NC account first, then claim the pack on the account and launcher you will actually use. Advance Access is platform-locked, so a pack claimed on the wrong storefront is a pack you cannot use on the day it matters.

Do it while the download runs, not on launch night. Storage will not tell you much — both tiers ask for the same 100 GB.

Pick a faction and class while the preload is running

Class selection is the other task worth doing early, because it determines whether you spend launch evening reading or playing. The global launch ships eight classes — Templar, Gladiator, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric, and Chanter — and the character creator cannot be previewed while the pre-load runs, so the decision is due before the files finish.

One naming trap worth knowing: the global client calls the summoner Spiritmaster while Korean and Taiwanese coverage translates the same class as Elementalist, which makes search results misleading.

How do I fix common download problems?

Start with file verification, then disk space, then the network path. Those three, in that order, resolve most launcher failures. The advice below is general rather than AION 2-specific, because no title-specific issue has been documented for this client yet.

If none of that helps, the honest next step is the official support channel rather than a third-party download mirror. Unofficial mirrors are the most common way players end up with a client that cannot connect on launch day. Does wishlisting AION 2 give rewards?

No. Wishlisting is a notification mechanism, not a reward.
