AION 2 Preload and Download — Steam and PURPLE Client Guide

The client is not downloadable yet, and that is the most useful thing this page can tell you up front. What is settled is where the game will come from, which launcher you are allowed to use if you bought a Founder’s Pack, and how to prepare so launch night is short. Anything more specific than that is currently unannounced.

How do I download AION 2?

Two official channels distribute the global client: Steam and the NCSOFT PURPLE launcher. On Steam the game is AppID 3393110 (store page). PURPLE is NCSOFT’s own launcher, downloaded from the official global site at aion2.plaync.com. Both are PC clients. Neither is live for download yet, but both are the storefronts NCSOFT has confirmed for launch.

There is no third official source. The global launch is PC only — no console or mobile client has been announced — so any download offered outside those two channels is not an official build. If you already own a Founder’s Pack, your choice between them is not free: entitlement follows the storefront of purchase, which is the platform lock described below.

Is there an AION 2 preload?

No preload has been announced. As of September 22, 2026, NCSOFT has published no pre-download date, no preload window, and no client size for the global launch. The confirmed dates remain September 30 for Advance Access and October 5 for the free opening. If a preload window is offered, the official site and the Steam store page will carry it before anywhere else does.

This is a common place for invented answers, so it is worth being blunt: sites printing a specific AION 2 preload date are extrapolating from other launches. NCSOFT has not given one. Wishlisting on Steam is the closest thing to a preload guarantee available right now, because it pushes a notification the moment the client becomes downloadable.

Should I use Steam or the PURPLE launcher?

Pick the launcher you intend to play through before you buy anything, because Founder’s Pack Advance Access is platform-locked. A pack bought on Steam unlocks the early window through Steam; a pack bought through PURPLE unlocks it through PURPLE. No transfer between the two has been announced.

If you have not bought a pack, the lock is irrelevant to you and either client is a valid way to play free from October 5. The differences then come down to preference: Steam brings wishlist notifications, the friends list, and the overlay, while PURPLE is NCSOFT’s own channel and the publisher’s native home for announcements and support for this title. What you should not do is buy on one storefront intending to switch later — the Founder’s Pack comparison covers why that path is currently closed, and the Advance Access guide covers the window itself.

How much disk space does AION 2 need?

The official Steam sheet lists 100 GB of available space, and NCSOFT recommends an SSD. That figure comes from the store page for AppID 3393110, so it is a specification rather than an estimate. Note that it is a floor, not a final footprint — the download size and the settled on-disk size after patching can differ.

Practical guidance that holds regardless: install to an SSD rather than a mechanical drive, since open-world MMO clients stream assets constantly; leave headroom beyond 100 GB for patch staging, shader caches, logs, and screenshots; and confirm free space before launch night instead of during it. What should I do before the client is available?

Wishlist the game, subscribe to the newsletter, check your hardware, and settle on a class. None of those steps produces a download, but each one shortens the gap between the client appearing and you actually playing. They also remove the two decisions that slow most people down on launch night.

The newsletter is the only confirmed free reward track. Subscribers receive the Pagati pet plus a choice of one further pet from Konutin Worker, Papis, Black Smoke Murute, or Silver Blade Rotan. Those are independent of any purchase, and the confirmed list lives on the pre-registration rewards page.

Class selection is the other task worth doing early, because it determines whether you spend launch evening reading or playing. The global launch ships eight classes — Templar, Gladiator, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric, and Chanter — and the classes overview breaks them down by weapon and role. Watch the naming here: the global client calls the summoner Spiritmaster, while Korean and Taiwanese coverage translates the same class as Elementalist, which makes search results misleading.

How do I fix common download problems?

Start with file verification, then disk space, then the network path. Those three, in that order, resolve most launcher failures. The advice below is general rather than AION 2-specific, because the client is not public yet and no title-specific issues have been documented.

If none of that helps, the honest next step is the official support channel rather than a third-party download mirror. Unofficial mirrors are the most common way players end up with a client that cannot connect on launch day.

Does wishlisting AION 2 give rewards?

No. Wishlisting is a notification mechanism, not a reward. Adding the game to your Steam wishlist alerts you when it becomes available for download; it does not grant items, currency, or Advance Access. Wishlisting is free and costs you nothing, but treating it as a reward track leads to disappointment.

The only free in-game gifts confirmed so far come from the newsletter signup — the Pagati pet and a choice of one further pet. Advance Access itself, by contrast, is not free: it requires a Founder’s Pack, and all three tiers include the same five-day window. What is still unannounced?

Preload timing, both unlock hours, world names, and the console question are all still open. The table below lists every detail we have seen quoted confidently for the global launch, together with its actual status as checked against official sources on September 22, 2026.

World names are unpublished, though the service is split into North America, South America, Europe, and Asia with dedicated servers per region. We track that list on the server list and regions page rather than guessing at datamined entries.
