AION 2 is free to play on PC, but it is not free on hardware, and the numbers are no longer a guess. NCSOFT published a full minimum and recommended sheet on the Steam store page, and the sheet says something most spec tables quietly drop: even the recommended build is meant to run full HD at the Low preset. This page reproduces the official tables verbatim, then reads them the way a buyer should.

Does AION 2 have official PC system requirements?

Yes. NCSOFT published a complete minimum and recommended sheet on the Steam store page for AppID 3393110, so the earlier “specs not announced” position no longer applies. Both tiers require a 64-bit processor and operating system, DirectX 12, a broadband connection, and 100 GB of available space.

Everything in the two tables below is copied from that Steam page, including the Additional Notes lines that carry the interesting part.

The launch schedule page tracks the date those numbers come due; the sheet itself is already final enough to shop against.

What do the official Additional Notes actually tell you?

That line is the most informative part of the sheet. NCSOFT attaches no frame-rate target to either tier — it attaches a graphics preset. The recommended build is told to run FHD at Low, and the minimum build at Very Low. Officially, both tiers describe compatibility, not quality.

Read literally, “recommended” here means “the build at which the Low preset is the intended setting at FHD”. It is not a promise of high settings, of comfortable frame rates, or of headroom for the large-scale raids and PvP that the same store page lists as features. Every quality setting named anywhere on this sheet is a low one.

The consequence for buyers is concrete. If your goal is Medium, High, or Ultra at FHD, or any resolution above FHD, the official sheet gives you no target at all, because you would sit above the recommended row by definition and NCSOFT has published nothing about what such a machine should deliver.

There is a second consequence, about how to read other people’s spec tables. Guides that reprint a recommended tier while dropping the Additional Notes strip out the only quality statement NCSOFT made. A PC that matches the recommended row and then plays at Low is not underperforming — it is doing exactly what the sheet specifies.

Does AION 2 run on Windows only?

Yes. Steam lists AppID 3393110 as Windows-only: the platform flags are windows true, mac false, linux false. There is no macOS or Linux client, so neither is officially supported. A 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation is the entire supported target, and Proton or Steam Deck compatibility has not been officially confirmed.

That answers the question the same way for both non-Windows camps. Mac owners have no supported route today: not a native client, not a listed compatibility layer, not a rating. Linux owners are in the identical position, with the added wrinkle that the Steam Deck runs Linux while the only published client is a Windows build.

Whether a future translation-layer rating or client changes that is unknown. If you plan to play on a Mac or a Deck, wait for an official statement rather than assuming Proton will carry it, and check the preload and download guide for how the Windows clients are distributed.

Is an SSD required for AION 2?

Officially it is recommended, not required. Both the minimum and recommended entries carry the same Additional Notes line, SSD Recommended. Combined with 100 GB of available space, that makes an SSD the one storage configuration the sheet actively endorses, and “available” means free space, not the drive’s total capacity.

Two practical readings follow. First, the SSD note is first-party: it appears in NCSOFT’s own requirements text twice, so it is not a community preference dressed up as a rule. Second, the 100 GB figure is what the sheet asks you to have free for the game, and reserving extra headroom for patches and shader caches is sensible general practice rather than an official figure.

If you are deciding between a bigger mechanical drive and a smaller SSD, the sheet’s own wording points at the SSD. Storage is also the cheapest upgrade on this list, which is why it is worth doing before launch night rather than during a download.

Which languages does AION 2 support on Steam?

Eight languages, and Chinese is not one of them. Steam lists English, French, German, Spanish - Spain, Japanese, Portuguese - Brazil, Russian, and Korean for AppID 3393110. English, Japanese, and Korean are marked with an asterisk, which on Steam means the language also carries full audio support, not just text.

The absence of Chinese is the detail with real consequences, and it is a first-party omission rather than an oversight on our side: the official language list contains no Simplified or Traditional Chinese entry. Does AION 2 have in-app purchases?

Yes. In-App Purchases is listed among the Steam categories for AppID 3393110, and the store page also flags the game as free. That combination means what it usually means: no box price to download the client, and an in-game shop inside it. The 100 GB requirement applies either way.

This is where the monetisation model touches a hardware page. Free to play removes the purchase price, not the install size, not the GPU requirement, and not the drive space. A player who never spends a cent still needs to hit the same published floor as a player who buys in, which is why the requirements sheet is worth reading before the shop is.

How do you check your own PC against these specs?

What should laptop owners check before buying AION 2?

Laptops often launch games on the integrated chip instead of the discrete card. Open Windows Settings, go to System, then Display, then Graphics, add the AION 2 executable, and set it to High performance. Then confirm in Task Manager that the discrete GPU is the one carrying the load.

The published sheet names desktop-class parts — a GTX 1050 Ti at the floor and an RTX 2070 at the recommended tier — and it does not include a separate laptop list. A mobile GPU wearing the same name as a desktop card is generally the slower part, so a name match is not a performance match. Check the actual chip in your machine rather than the sticker on the lid.

Thin laptops with only integrated graphics are the group most exposed here, because neither official tier describes an integrated-graphics configuration. If that is your machine, the honest answer is that the sheet gives you nothing to compare against.

What do the official requirements still not cover?

Four things. There is no published frame-rate target for any preset, no preload date, no Steam Deck compatibility rating, and no console or mobile version. None of that can be filled in from measurement before launch, because the retail global client is not broadly playable yet.

If your goal is simply to be ready on day one, the order is now unambiguous: confirm 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, confirm DirectX 12, match your GPU against the published rows, and free 100 GB on an SSD. That list is checkable today, without waiting for anything else.
