FAQ

What is a stigma in AION 2?
A stigma is an advanced skill that sits above your normal Mastery skill list. Regional guides describe equipping a small number of stigmas chosen from a larger pool, and upgrading them with a separate currency, Stigma Shards, rather than with ordinary Skill Points.
What is the difference between Mastery skills and Stigma skills?
Mastery skills are your core abilities, raised with Skill Points as you level. Stigma skills are advanced abilities on a second track, upgraded with Stigma Shards. If the two-track structure carries from the Korean and Taiwanese service to global, the distinction will hold; NCSOFT has not published a global skill breakdown.
Where do Stigma Shards come from?
Regional guides list Transcendence runs, Supply requests, Command quest contracts, Shugo mini games and exchanging Abyss Points, all as KR/TW reference material. None of those sources is confirmed for the global service, and no drop rate is published.
How many stigma slots can I equip?
One regional guide describes choosing four stigmas from a larger pool to equip. That is a single KR/TW reference claim, not an official number, and the global slot count is not announced.
Can I reset a stigma or skill for free?
Regional sources describe skill resets as free, which would remove the usual respec cost if it carries to global. This is KR/TW reference material; NCSOFT has not published the global reset policy or its price.
Do I need stigmas to level a skill past 10?
No. Stigmas are a separate track, not the route past level 10. Regional material attributes skill levels above 10 to Daevanion board nodes, gear with a skill-level bonus, and specific items. Stigma Shards upgrade stigma skills instead.
Which stigma should I upgrade first?
There is no verified ranking. The honest pre-launch rule is to upgrade the stigma that fixes your class role in group content, not the one that looks strongest in isolation. With resets reported free regionally, testing beats copying a list.
Are stigmas confirmed for the AION 2 global launch?
No. The two-track skill structure is documented on the Korean and Taiwanese service, but NCSOFT has not confirmed that advanced stigmas ship with the global build, how many slots exist, or how Shards are earned globally.

AION 2 skills come in two tracks. Mastery skills are your core abilities, raised with Skill Points as you level. Stigma skills sit on a second track: advanced abilities you equip from a pool and upgrade with Stigma Shards instead of ordinary points. In the original AION this split was one of the game’s defining systems, and regional material says the sequel keeps it.

Everything below is described from the Korean and Taiwanese service and from third-party guides — not a global specification. The parts most players care about, slots and shard sources, are unannounced for October 5, 2026.

What are Stigma skills in AION 2?

A stigma is an advanced skill that sits above your Mastery list: you equip a limited number chosen from a larger pool and raise them with a dedicated currency rather than with the Skill Points you spend on core abilities. Regionally that currency is Stigma Shards.

The practical consequence is that a stigma is a build decision, not a completion target. You are not expected to learn every stigma; you are expected to choose which few define your character and fund those. That is the opposite of the Mastery track, where the default is to raise the abilities you already have. Because the choice is scarce, the second track is where class identity actually lives — a Templar with one stigma set plays differently from a Templar with another, even with identical gear.

Two caveats before the details. First, this is regional material; NCSOFT has not published a global skill breakdown. Second, even the regional picture is thin on the numbers that matter most — slot counts, shard rates and upgrade costs are either single-source or missing entirely.

Mastery skills versus Stigma skills

Track Currency What it represents How you interact with it Global status
Mastery skills Skill Points Core abilities, raised as you level Direct investment to a regional cap of level 10 Structure reported; curve not announced
Stigma skills Stigma Shards Advanced abilities chosen from a pool Equip a limited set; upgrade with Shards Not announced for global

If that structure carries across services, levelling a Mastery skill and upgrading a stigma are two different budgets that never trade against each other. That is why a player can be “maxed” on one track and starved on the other, and why advice that treats all skills as one pool misleads. NCSOFT has not published a global skill breakdown, so this is a structural expectation, not a rule.

The two tracks also fail differently. A Mastery skill that is under-levelled is a small, uniform weakness. A stigma that is missing or under-upgraded can remove an ability your group is built around — the kind of gap that shows up in a party, not on a character sheet.

Where Stigma Shards come from

Source Type Evidence level
Transcendence instances Higher-tier dungeon content KR/TW reference
Supply requests Repeatable task KR/TW reference
Command quest contracts Quest line KR/TW reference
Shugo mini games Side activity KR/TW reference
Exchanging Abyss Points PvP currency KR/TW reference

Every row is regional. No global drop rate, cap or weekly limit is published for any of them, and the list itself comes from secondary sites rather than an NCSOFT global page. The useful thing to carry forward is the shape: Shards are earned across PvE and PvP rather than from one faucet, which is why the Abyss overview and the dungeon list both matter to a stigma plan.

Two details sharpen that shape. Transcendence is described as a higher-tier instance type separate from ordinary Expeditions, so the best Shard source may also be the most demanding content. And dungeon entry regionally now runs on Odyle Energy, a per-run cost repaid through a reward cube on clear, with entry eligibility and reward eligibility treated as two different gates. If either carries to global, it caps how many Shard-bearing runs you can fund per day — a daily budget, not an open grind.

How Stigma slots and loadouts work

One regional source describes equipping four stigmas chosen from a larger pool; the global slot count is not announced. The difference between four and, say, six is not cosmetic — it decides whether your build is one identity or a rotating toolkit — which is exactly why an unverified number should not be planned around.

Related regional terms include stigma stones, stigma slots and a superior stigma shard tier. Those names suggest an upgrade path beyond the basic shard, but no source this site found documents the full ladder, and NCSOFT has published nothing global. The honest read is that the pool is larger than the loadout by design: scarcity is the point, and the system expects you to leave stigmas on the shelf.

Loadouts also imply swapping. If resets and re-equips are cheap regionally, a player can carry a single-target set and a group set and switch by content. Whether that is possible on global is one of the biggest unanswered questions, because it decides whether you commit to one identity or maintain several.

Which Stigma should you upgrade first?

Upgrade for the role you will actually be asked to fill, not for the number that looks largest. A stigma is only valuable if it is used in the content you run, so the first question is not “which is strongest” but “what does my group expect from my class in the content I play”.

That resolves most early choices without a ranking. If you are the healer, the stigma that extends your support window matters before one that adds personal damage. If you are the tank, the stigma that holds or recovers threat matters before a damage pick. If you solo more than you group, the priority flips toward self-sufficiency. None of that requires knowing a single shard value, and it survives the global numbers changing.

What this page will not do is publish a tier list. No global build has been measured, and every ranking circulating now is extrapolated from a different service — so it ranks abilities you may never equip, with numbers you cannot verify. The class tier list is deliberately unranked for the same reason. If resets are free as reported, the correct early move is to test rather than to copy.

Resets: what you can undo and what you cannot

Regional sources describe skill resets as free, which — if it carries to global — would make experimenting with a stigma loadout low-risk. That is a KR/TW reference claim, not a global policy, and the price of any reset on the global service is not announced.

If resets are free, almost everything in the stigma track is reversible: the equipped set, the investment direction, even a build you regret by level 30. That is the strongest argument for treating the whole track as a sandbox until you know the global rules. What a free reset does not undo is spent currency — re-routing a stigma does not return the Shards, only the choice. So the irreversible cost is never the decision, it is the investment, which is why this page keeps insisting on funding one stigma well rather than spreading Shards thinly across four.

The free-reset detail is also the reason this page does not push a “best stigma” list: if resets cost nothing, the correct early strategy is to test builds rather than to copy one. Until NCSOFT says which, hold your build loosely.

How Stigma stacks with Daevanion and gear

  • Daevanion. Board nodes can add levels to a named skill, and the two tracks can point at the same ability from different directions. The Daevanion boards guide covers the node side.
  • Skill points. The Mastery cap and its extensions — nodes, gear and items — are mapped in the skill points guide, which explains why level 10 is a wall.
  • Gear. Gear carries +skill level bonuses and, regionally, enhancement from +1 to +20 with a Transfer rule that keeps the enhancement level but drops some socketed layers. The gear progression guide has the detail.
  • The stacking risk. Because a skill level can come from a stigma, a board node, a gear roll or a card, it is easy to double-pay for the same result. Decide which layer funds which skill before you spend on any of them.

Read together, the two skill tracks plus gear are one budget problem, and the stigma track is the least forgiving part of it because its currency is the scarcest.

What is still unconfirmed for global

Question Global status
Mastery skills raised by Skill Points Reported structure; curve not announced
Stigma skills as a second track Not announced
Stigma Shards and their sources Not announced
Number of stigma slots Not announced — one regional claim of four
Stigma stones / superior shard tiers Unconfirmed
Free skill reset KR/TW reference only
Global skill cap and values No global data exists
Whether advanced stigmas ship at launch Not announced

The September 2026 Launch Scale Test is the only hands-on global build so far: level 37, progress wiped, with solo and party dungeons, the Abyss, arenas, rifts, crafting and player trading named as playable. It published no skill breakdown, so neither the stigma track nor its slot count is confirmed for October 5.

Sources and verification

  • mmoexp — Stigma Shard sources: Transcendence, Supply requests, Command quest contracts, Shugo mini games, Abyss Points exchange (KR/TW reference, secondary)
  • allthings.how — the two-track Mastery/Stigma split, four equipped stigmas, stigma stone and superior shard terminology (KR/TW reference, secondary)
  • expcarry and mmogah — the regional skill cap of level 10 direct investment, extended via Daevanion nodes, gear bonuses and items; conflicting caps of 12, 16 and 20 (KR/TW reference, secondary)

Evidence level: KR/TW reference and unconfirmed. Nothing here comes from the global retail build, which does not exist before October 5, 2026. The two-track structure is a regionally-reported expectation, not a global fact, and every shard source, slot count and reset claim is labelled. Items marked not announced were checked on September 24, 2026.
