FAQ

What is the Gladiator in AION 2?
The Gladiator is the bruiser and off-tank of the eight-class global launch roster. It fights with a greatsword, deals heavy melee damage in a wide area, and is durable enough to cover the tank when a pull goes wrong. NCSOFT lists it as a launch class for October 5, 2026.
What weapon does the AION 2 Gladiator use?
A greatsword. AION 2 pairs each class with a single weapon type rather than weapon swapping, so the greatsword is the entire weapon decision for a Gladiator.
Is the Gladiator a tank or a damage class?
Both, which is the point of the role. It is officially a bruiser and off-tank: it can hold a line when needed and still contribute real melee pressure. It is not the dedicated tank, and it is not a pure damage class either.
Can Elyos and Asmodians both play a Gladiator?
Yes. All eight launch classes are available to both factions, and every class can be played as either gender. Faction changes your starting region, story framing and community, not your class.
Is the Gladiator good for solo play in AION 2?
The role suggests it should be one of the more comfortable solo classes, because it combines melee damage with the durability to survive a bad pull. How comfortable exactly is unmeasured until the global build is live.
Is the Gladiator better than the Templar in AION 2?
There is no verified answer before October 5, 2026. They fill different jobs: the Templar is the main tank a group builds around, while the Gladiator is the bruiser that covers for the tank and adds pressure. Pick the job you want, not the ranking you cannot verify.
When will this Gladiator page get real builds?
After the global launch on October 5, 2026. Builds need a live client to test against, so this page publishes only confirmed role and weapon facts plus clearly labelled Korean and Taiwanese context until then.

The Gladiator is AION 2’s answer to the player who wants to be hit and hit back: a greatsword bruiser and off-tank that sits between the Templar and the pure damage classes. It is confirmed for the global launch roster on October 5, 2026. This page covers what that role commits you to, and refuses to publish damage figures that nobody can measure before the global servers open.

What is the AION 2 Gladiator?

The Gladiator is AION 2’s bruiser and off-tank. It fights with a greatsword, deals heavy melee damage across a wide area, and carries enough durability to hold a front line or cover the tank. NCSOFT lists it among the eight classes shipping with the global launch on October 5, 2026.

Gladiator Detail
Role Bruiser / off-tank
Weapon Greatsword
Primary stat direction Offensive stats first, with enough defensive weight to survive the frontline
Difficulty Moderate — forgiving on durability, demanding on positioning
Best for Players who want heavy melee, area pressure, and the option to cover a tank

The stat direction is a qualitative read of what the role implies, not a measured priority, and the classes overview covers how the Gladiator sits against the other seven classes.

How does the AION 2 Gladiator play?

Forward and wide. A Gladiator moves into the middle of a fight, swings a greatsword through groups of enemies rather than single targets, and stays there because it can take the return damage. The class asks you to be comfortable being surrounded rather than picking enemies off one at a time.

What the official global material confirms

NCSOFT presents the Gladiator as a frontline melee class that combines durability with damage, which is a bruiser in plain language. Two commitments follow: you are expected to be in the middle of things, because a greatsword class does not contribute from the back of a room; and you are the flexible frontliner, the second body that absorbs pressure when a group already has a Templar.

Role and weapon are confirmed for the global service. How hard the class hits, and how it scales, are not — the global vs KR/TW differences page explains why those cannot be borrowed from another service.

What Korean and Taiwanese play suggests — not confirmed for global

The Korean and Taiwanese service has run since November 19, 2025, and its Gladiator reads as a durable area-damage melee class that can also shore up a failing front line. Labelled as observation, not confirmed for global:

  • Area pressure is the identity. The greatsword swings through groups, which makes the class strongest against packs rather than lone targets.
  • It doubles as a second tank. A Gladiator is expected to survive attention that would flatten a damage class.
  • Group benefit exists beyond damage. The class is described as bringing team utility on top of its own output, which is unusual for a melee class.

A Templar exists to hold attention and absorb the fight; a Gladiator exists to add damage while being durable enough to keep doing it. If your instinct is to protect everyone else, the Templar is the more honest pick.

What are the Gladiator’s strengths and weaknesses?

The trade is flexibility against specialisation. A Gladiator can do two jobs adequately and will be out-performed at each of them by the class that does only that job. That is not a flaw in the design; it is the design, and it is why a Gladiator slot stays useful in a group that already has a tank.

Strengths Weaknesses
Two useful jobs in one slot: frontline damage and emergency tanking Not the best tank, and not the best damage dealer
Area damage makes it efficient against packs and adds Melee range means melee problems: cleaves, knockbacks, forced movement
Durable enough that a bad pull is survivable Being in the middle of a fight means being in the middle of every mechanic
Team benefit beyond its own damage output Output expectations are high, and no verified numbers exist to check them
Greatsword fantasy without a support role’s responsibility Gear dependence is unmeasured until the global build is live

The difficulty label is our reading of class mechanics rather than a measurement, held to the same standard as the tier list page, which refuses to rank all eight classes for the same reason.

Can Elyos and Asmodians both play a Gladiator?

Yes, both. AION 2 has two factions, the Elyos (Light) and the Asmodians (Dark), and all eight launch classes are available on either side. Every class can also be played as either gender, and the global build includes wardrobe and character customization systems.

So faction is not a class decision: it decides your starting region, the story you are told, and the population you play alongside. Since faction and world are permanent choices made on day one, settle them deliberately — the release date and launch time guide covers what has to be decided before the servers open.

Worth noting for anyone planning a look: NCSOFT added the Wardrobe and Character Customization systems to the Launch Scale Test after the test was announced.

Is there a tier placement for the AION 2 Gladiator?

No. No verified global tier placement exists for the Gladiator, or for any other class, before October 5, 2026. The retail global build has never been playable and the Korean and Taiwanese service is a separate build, so any ranking published today is inference rather than measurement.

This matters more for the Gladiator than for most classes, because it is the class most often described with a number attached — best area damage, second-best tank, a hybrid that excels at neither. Those claims sound measurable, and none of them are measurable on the global build yet.

What you can decide honestly today:

  • Role scarcity. Tank-capable bodies are always in short supply in a fresh MMO, and an off-tank covers that shortage from a second angle.
  • Mechanical difficulty. A greatsword bruiser is more forgiving to start than a positional melee class, because durability buys back mistakes.
  • Feel. The Launch Scale Test on September 17 and 18, 2026 was the only hands-on window before launch, and it wiped progress at the end.

If a page ranks the Gladiator with confidence today, check whether it states a region, a test date and a sample size. A ranking that carries Korean or Taiwanese values under a global headline is selling you a different game.

What changes on this page after October 5?

Everything below the confirmed layer. Once the global build is live this page gains a stat priority tested on the live client, area-damage notes from cleared content, an off-tank section covering when to cover for a Templar, and a tier placement published with its method attached.

When What gets added
From September 30, 2026 (Advance Access) First-hand impressions of greatsword feel, mobility and solo pacing on the global client
From October 5, 2026 (launch) Confirmed skill list, stat priorities, area-damage notes and a leveling route
Two to four weeks after launch A tier placement with sample size and test date, or a statement that the evidence is still too thin

This page will not be padded with invented builds to look complete, because a build you cannot test is a build you cannot recommend.

Sources and verification

Everything above was checked against the sources below on September 22, 2026. Role, weapon and faction rules come from NCSOFT global material, Korean and Taiwanese observations are labelled where they appear, and no damage, stat or ranking figure is published anywhere on this page.

  • NCSOFT global site, aion2.plaync.com — global launch date and the confirmed eight-class launch roster
  • NCSOFT Steam announcements for AppID 3393110 and the playtest app 4972320 — Launch Scale Test window, full progress wipe, and the Wardrobe and Character Customization additions
  • NCSOFT Korean and Taiwanese service material — November 19, 2025 launch, used only as labelled context
  • Role and weapon pairings mirror the confirmed global launch roster

Evidence level: Official / Global for the Gladiator’s bruiser and off-tank role, greatsword weapon, launch roster membership, and faction and gender access. Global-adjacent for the difficulty read, which comes from class mechanics rather than measurement. Korean and Taiwanese for the playstyle notes, clearly marked and not confirmed for the global service. No numeric claim is made anywhere on this page.
