FAQ

When does the next Spacetime Rift open in AION 2?
Rifts open every 3 hours around the clock, and each rift stays open for 1 hour. The portal itself only accepts players for the first 10 minutes of the window — miss that and you wait for the next cycle. Community timer sites count the windows down in your local time, and the in-game clock on your minimap tracks the cycle once you have seen one rift.
How do I enter a Spacetime Rift?
Walk to the rift portal that spawns on your own faction map and interact with it before the 10-minute entry window closes. Elyos players traditionally gather at the Destroyed Abyss Gate area a few minutes before a window opens, because the crowd there is the easiest way to confirm the timing on your server. A quest that requires entering a rift only progresses through portals marked with a green indicator.
Can the enemy faction kill me inside a rift?
Yes — you are standing on their map, and hostile players can attack you the entire hour. The PvE guards near enemy settlements and Kibelisks are more dangerous than players for most characters: they one-shot intruders. Stay away from enemy Kibelisks, plant your own Kibelisk early so deaths respawn you at your beachhead, and treat the hour as open-world PvP with objectives, not a safe dungeon queue.
What should I do inside a Spacetime Rift?
Pick up all your faction’s rift quests before entering so you can clear them in one visit, then run the quick objectives on the enemy map: sealed dungeons, strongholds and field bosses. Sealed dungeons take under a minute each, field bosses drop gear that converts to skins or Kinah, and rift-related quests pay out alongside the usual rewards.

Spacetime Rifts are AION 2’s answer to a question old MMOs never solved: how do you make two factions share one world without either one logging in to a burnt map? The rifts invert the problem — instead of bringing the enemy to you, they teleport you to the enemy, on a schedule, in bounded waves, with rules that keep the hour survivable.

What a Spacetime Rift is

A Spacetime Rift is a temporary portal on your faction’s map that leads to the map of the opposite faction. Enter as an Asmodian and you arrive in Verteron; enter as an Elyos and you arrive in Asmodian territory. The world you visit is the real shared world — its mobs, its nodes, its dungeons — which is exactly why the rift matters: it is the only legitimate route to objectives that live behind the faction wall.

The raid-shaped part is the destination list. The enemy map holds sealed dungeons, strongholds and field bosses that your own map’s version does not offer, and rift quests pay you for stepping through all of it. What the rift does not do is soften the map: hostile players see you, and the guards around their settlements hit intruders for one-shot damage.

The schedule: every 3 hours, 1 hour long, 10-minute door

Rifts open every 3 hours, the rift lasts 1 hour, and the portal accepts new arrivals for only the first 10 minutes. All three numbers are strict, and the third one is the one that disappoints new players: arriving 11 minutes after the window opens means standing at a portal you can no longer use.

Parameter Value
Opening frequency Every 3 hours
Rift duration 1 hour
Portal entry window First 10 minutes only
Portal capacity Roughly 300 uses, then a new portal spawns elsewhere
Rifts per day About 8 windows

The capacity rule is the subtle one. Each portal survives roughly 300 interactions; once it exhausts, another portal spawns in a different location. If you arrive during the entry window but the local portal is spent, the replacement is not where you are standing — check your map for the new marker before assuming the rift bugged out.

Finding your server’s exact clock phase is easiest the community way: Elyos players gather at the Destroyed Abyss Gate a few minutes before the hour, and the size of the crowd tells you where your server is in the cycle. After you have entered one rift, the in-game clock at the bottom of the minimap tracks the pattern for you.

Survival rules on the enemy map

The first thing you do inside a rift should be planting your own Kibelisk in a safe spot — it becomes your respawn point for the hour. Die without one and you wake up back in your own world’s territory, which usually ends the rift trip; die with one planted and you are back in the fight within seconds.

The survival rules, in the order players learn them:

  1. Never approach enemy Kibelisks or settlements. You cannot interact with their structures, and the guards patrolling them one-shot intruders. This is the single most common rift death.
  2. Plant your Kibelisk early, before you engage anything, on ground away from patrol routes.
  3. Assume hostile players can see you. The enemy map is open-world PvP territory for the hour — travel in groups when you plan to contest field bosses, because the other faction contests them too.
  4. Watch the clock. Objectives near the end of the hour strand you: dying after the window closes means a corpse run you cannot finish.

Rift quests: seven per faction, take them all before you enter

Each faction fields seven rift-related quests, and they only progress from portals marked with a green indicator. The quests range from simply entering the rift to collecting materials that only exist on the enemy map, and they are the reason most players rift at all — the payouts are solid for the effort.

Elyos quests Asmodian quests
Spacetime Rift Spacetime Rift
Spacetime Rift: Not Quite the Same Spacetime Rift: Unknown Species
Spacetime Rift: Unfamiliar Material Spacetime Rift: Unfamiliar Material
Spacetime Rift: Beautiful Carapace Spacetime Rift: Difference Between Here and There
Spacetime Rift: Pure Plants Spacetime Rift: Developing Travel Goods
Spacetime Rift: Perfect Tool Spacetime Rift: An Honest Shugo
Spacetime Rift: Trendsetter Spacetime Rift: Proof

Two rules govern the list. You cannot pick up the opposite faction’s regional quests while on their map, so anything you want paid out must be in your log before you step through. And because quest objectives are spread across the enemy map, the efficient pattern is to accept everything, enter once, and clear in a loop — the players who enter for one quest and leave spend their whole evening in the 10-minute queue.

What to run inside: dungeons, strongholds, field bosses

The value targets are sealed dungeons and strongholds (each clears in about a minute) and the enemy map’s field bosses, whose gear drops convert to skins or Kinah. Field boss hunting is also a quiet Abyss Points engine: the gear you farm feeds supply requests and the Abyss gear track, and rift hours are when those bosses see the most competition.

Community timer and map tools — questlog.gg, a2db.ru, shugo.gg and similar sites — count rift windows down in local time and mark field boss spawns, and they are worth a bookmark while the rhythm is new. If you are choosing a character for this content, the dungeon entry guide covers the Odyle energy rules that gate dungeon entries alongside the rift loop.

Evidence level: Official-adjacent for the schedule numbers, portal capacity and quest lists (multiple independent tools recompute them live against the running game); community-reported for staging spots and per-server clock phases. Server regions may sit at different points in the 3-hour cycle — the schedule is a period, not a global start time, so never assume another region’s countdown applies to your server.
