AION 2 Splendent Ruby Location — Essence Extraction Upgrade Quest

The Splendent Ruby is the first real wall new gatherers hit in AION 2: the quest text sends you after an item with no map marker, no bestiary entry and no inventory source, and the community forums fill with the same question — where is it? The answer is simpler than the quest makes it sound, but the locations are faction-specific and one of them sits inside a hostile zone.

What the Splendent Ruby actually is

A Splendent Ruby is a rare extraction result, not a separate node. You obtain it by extracting essence from ordinary Ruby deposits — the same red gems you have been mining for Novice experience. Every extraction from a Ruby has a chance to yield the Splendent Ruby, which arrives as Splendent Ruby (Bound) directly in your inventory. You cannot buy it, receive it in the mail or trade for it; every player who finishes this quest dug it out of a Ruby themselves.

This design explains most of the forum confusion. Players arrive at a Ruby, extract once, get no Splendent Ruby, and conclude they found the wrong spot. You have not — the drop rate is simply not 100%. Bring patience or bring more nodes; both work.

How the quest starts

The [Upgrade] Essence Extraction Specialty Skill quest appears when your Essence Extraction reaches Novice Level 50. Below that threshold the quest does not exist for your character, and Rubies extracted before Novice 50 can still produce the bound ruby, so there is no harm in gathering early — but you can only complete the upgrade once the quest is in your log.

For Elyos characters the quest comes from Korius at the Dawn Legion Base, the starting base of Verteron: you gather the Splendent Ruby and bring it back to him to finish the specialty upgrade test and unlock the Professional tier. For Asmodian characters the equivalent quest comes from the local Essence Extraction expert in the Altgard starting area; the structure — Novice 50, gather test, hand-in — mirrors the Elyos version.

Elyos Ruby location: Verteron Fortress Ruins

Rubies for the Elyos quest line grow along the outer edges of the Verteron Fortress Ruins boundary wall, southeast of Dawn Legion Base. The fortress ruins are a higher-level area — the Rubies there serve the level 20+ band — and some deposits spawn inside or beside hostile mob camps.

Practical points for the Elyos run:

• Three or more Rubies are visible along the wall’s outer edge, with more scattered inside the ruins area.
• The mobs nearby aggro tightly; the standard advice is to use flight to hop between deposits and stay out of patrol paths rather than fighting through.
• Extract every Ruby you can reach. If another player cleared a node, it respawns within minutes — the world’s deposits are shared per server.

Asmodian Ruby location: Calderon Canyon, Altgard

Asmodians find Rubies in Calderon Canyon in Altgard, on the craggy mountainside south of Safe Haven. The canyon sits directly south of the Asmodian starting base, and the deposits cluster around a crashed ship on the mountainside: several Rubies appear right next to the Calderon Canyon map marker on the riverbanks, with more spread across the region.

One detail differs between sources: some community guides also name the Quai Campsite area as a Ruby spot for the Asmodian run. Both descriptions agree on the canyon itself, so treat Calderon Canyon as the confirmed anchor and the campsite area as a secondary cluster — if the canyon is crowded, walk toward Quai and check the slopes there.

Ruby respawn and competition

Ruby deposits are shared world nodes that respawn within minutes. Aion 2 runs a single shared world per server rather than instanced gathering, so a Ruby someone else extracted first is gone for you — but only temporarily. On the launch-week crowds, the honest strategy is to loop a route of three or four known deposits rather than camping one, because extraction attempts are what roll the drop chance, and more attempts per hour is the entire math of this quest.
