AION 2 launches globally on October 5, 2026 at 1:00 PM UTC — 6:00 AM Pacific Daylight Time — simultaneously in every region on PC, through Steam and the NCSOFT PURPLE launcher. NCSOFT published that hour itself in its Advanced Access server notice on September 29, so this is an announced time rather than a storefront estimate. Founder’s Pack owners are already inside: Early Access opened on September 30 after a short delay, and pre-download has been available since September 28. This page carries every confirmed date in the global rollout, what each stage unlocks, and the details NCSOFT still has not announced.
Status strip — checked September 30, 2026. Early Access: open, published slot 13:00 UTC, moved to 13:30 UTC by a delay notice. Pre-download: available since September 28. Global launch: October 5, 2026 at 13:00 UTC, not yet reached. All times below are UTC unless a zone is named.
When exactly does AION 2 launch?
October 5, 2026 at 1:00 PM UTC, which is 6:00 AM PDT in the United States. NCSOFT listed that hour as the Global Launch line of its access schedule in the Advanced Access Servers notice of September 29, 2026. The launch is simultaneous worldwide: every region unlocks on that one instant, and only the clock on your wall changes.
The same notice, published on the AION 2 Steam news feed, draws the boundary between the two live phases. Advanced Access runs from September 30 at 13:00 UTC to October 5 at 05:00 UTC — in Pacific terms, 6:00 AM on September 30 through 10:00 PM on October 4. Servers then sit in maintenance from 05:00 UTC to 13:00 UTC on October 5, an eight-hour gap, and the free-to-play global launch follows the moment that maintenance ends. NCSOFT marks maintenance times as subject to change.
Several outlets published the 1:00 PM UTC figure a day earlier by tracing it to the Steam release timestamp rather than to a publisher statement — GameRant said on September 29 that the time was “based on the current Steam release date and time provided by SteamDB”. The number matches, but the sourcing did not, so the schedule here is anchored to NCSOFT’s own notice. The primary document is listed in Sources and verification.
Is AION 2 Early Access live right now?
Yes — Advanced Access opened on September 30, 2026 and is running now. The published slot was 13:00 UTC, and on the morning of September 30 NCSOFT announced a 30-minute delay to 13:30 UTC, with client decryption still beginning on the original schedule while the servers stayed in maintenance mode. It stays open through October 4.
| Event | Time (UTC) | Pacific | Where it is recorded |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-download became available | September 28, no clock time published | — | NCSOFT Steam news, September 28 |
| Advanced Access — published slot | September 30, 13:00 | 6:00 AM PDT | Missed |
| Advanced Access — after the delay notice | September 30, 13:30 | 6:30 AM PDT | NCSOFT Steam news, September 30 |
| Advanced Access — reported live | September 30, 14:00 | 7:00 AM PDT | Game8, reporting the official X/Twitter second-delay notice |
The last row is the one claim on this page we did not confirm first-hand. As of September 30, 2026, Game8 reported a second 30-minute delay putting servers live at 14:00 UTC with players queueing, and attributes that delay notice to the official AION 2 X/Twitter account - a channel outside the Steam news feed this page tracks, which is why the row is sourced to Game8 rather than to NCSOFT directly.
Two practical consequences follow from pre-download being open before anyone could log in. First, the files you download are encrypted and get decrypted locally on the day — NCSOFT states this is not a reinstall, and that decryption time varies with your PC specs, so a slow disk means a slow first launch. Second, Steam players who joined the September 17–18 Launch Scale Test must uninstall the separate Playtest app before Advanced Access; PURPLE players have no further steps. The pre-download and download page walks through the client step by step, and the Early Access guide covers entitlement and storefront choice.
What is the full global rollout schedule?
Four dated milestones plus a maintenance gap, and they are not interchangeable. The Launch Scale Test on September 17–18 was a stress test, now over, whose progress does not carry over. Pre-download has been available since September 28. Advance Access from September 30 to October 4 gives Founder’s Pack owners five days. The free Global Launch is October 5.
| Milestone | Date and time | Who can play | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Launch Scale Test | September 17–18, 2026 | Anyone who signed up via Steam | A limited infrastructure stress test. Ended. Progress does not carry over. |
| Pre-download | Available since September 28, 2026 | Steam and PURPLE owners | Encrypted client download; decrypted locally on September 30. |
| Advance Access | September 30 – October 4, 2026 (13:00 UTC Sept 30 → 05:00 UTC Oct 5) | Founder’s Pack owners | Five days of live progression before the free opening. |
| Maintenance | October 5, 05:00 UTC – 13:00 UTC | Nobody | Eight-hour gap between the two live phases. |
| Global Launch | October 5, 2026 at 13:00 UTC (6:00 AM PDT) | All PC players in supported regions | The free-to-play opening on Steam and PURPLE. |
The Launch Scale Test was exactly that — a test, not a head start. Characters created there are gone, and NCSOFT restated after the test closed that nothing transfers to Advanced Access or launch. If you missed it, you have lost nothing except a preview of the client. The Launch Scale Test and beta schedule page has the day-by-day windows, and the pre-registration rewards page covers what the test did and did not earn you.
Who gets in early, and what do the Founder’s Pack tiers change?
Anyone who buys a Founder’s Pack, at any of the three tiers: Standard ($24.99), Deluxe ($49.99), or Ultimate ($99.99). All three include the same five-day Advance Access window — the tiers differ in cosmetics and bonus items, not in when you can log in. NCSOFT confirmed in its server notice that every tier includes early access.
Two rules catch people out:
- Advance Access is platform-locked. A pack bought on Steam is played through Steam; a pack bought through PURPLE is played through the PURPLE launcher. Pick the storefront you actually want to launch the game from.
- Advance Access is not a separate game. You are playing the live global build five days early, and that progress carries into October 5.
Whether the extra five days are worth $24.99 depends on how much you care about early economy and name reservation — see the Founder’s Pack comparison for a tier-by-tier breakdown.
What time does AION 2 launch in my timezone?
Every region unlocks on the same instant — 13:00 UTC on October 5 — converted into local time. There is no separate regional schedule, and no region gets in early or late. The anchor is the hour NCSOFT published on September 29; each row below is that instant plus the UTC offset in effect on launch day.
| Region | Time zone | Local launch time on October 5, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Auckland, New Zealand | NZDT (UTC+13) | October 6, 2:00 AM |
| Sydney, Australia (east coast) | AEDT (UTC+11) | October 6, 12:00 AM |
| Seoul, Korea / Tokyo, Japan | KST / JST (UTC+9) | October 5, 10:00 PM |
| Perth, Australia (west coast) | AWST (UTC+8) | October 5, 9:00 PM |
| Manila, Philippines | PHT (UTC+8) | October 5, 9:00 PM |
| Dubai, UAE | GST (UTC+4) | October 5, 5:00 PM |
| Berlin, Paris / Johannesburg | CEST / SAST (UTC+2) | October 5, 3:00 PM |
| London, United Kingdom | BST (UTC+1) | October 5, 2:00 PM |
| São Paulo, Brazil | BRT (UTC−3) | October 5, 10:00 AM |
| New York, United States | EDT (UTC−4) | October 5, 9:00 AM |
| Chicago, United States | CDT (UTC−5) | October 5, 8:00 AM |
| Denver, United States | MDT (UTC−6) | October 5, 7:00 AM |
| Los Angeles, United States | PDT (UTC−7) | October 5, 6:00 AM |
The mental model underneath the table is the thing worth keeping: the launch is a single worldwide instant, not a local-midnight opening, so the calendar date itself changes by region. An evening Pacific unlock lands on October 6 in Korea, Japan and Australia. Nothing in Europe or North America slips past October 5.
Two conversion traps are worth knowing in advance. First, the US East Coast is on EDT (UTC−4) in October, not EST — articles that write “EST” year-round shift every result by an hour. Second, daylight saving is not symmetric across the regions in the table: Australia moves into AEDT in early October, so confirm your own offset before planning a group session around the Korean or Australian rows. The playtest schedule page documents both traps with worked examples from the September test, which NCSOFT published using the same PDT-first convention.
What will launch day actually look like?
Expect a crowded, slightly messy opening day rather than a smooth switch-on. Every major MMO launch brings queues, emergency maintenance, and login errors in the first hours, and AION 2 adds a paid head-start population plus a split market on top. Planning for friction now means launch night stays playable instead of frustrating.
- Login queues are likely, and NCSOFT has now written down a queue policy. When a server reaches capacity, members in good standing move into a priority queue instead of the general one, and both queues advance as space opens. Priority is a privilege, not a guarantee, and it can be revoked for disciplinary action or for suspected Terms of Service violations. See the server population page for what a full opening normally looks like on a launch day.
- There is a scheduled eight-hour maintenance window, not just emergency patches. NCSOFT published the October 5 gap from 05:00 UTC to 13:00 UTC in the same notice that published the launch hour, so you can plan around it instead of discovering it. The September scale test itself needed a scheduled maintenance notice and a hot fix inside twelve hours. Watch the server status and maintenance page rather than social media for downtime truth.
- The market starts split, and direct trading is off. NCSOFT has said it will temporarily separate Advance Access traders from free players to protect the opening economy, so prices on October 5 will not reflect a single unified market yet. Direct player-to-player trades are also disabled as an anti-bot measure, which leaves the Market as the hub for trading between players.
- Support channels will be slow. Account, entitlement, and platform-lock problems spike on opening day. Resolve any Steam-versus-PURPLE doubt before launch — see the Advance Access guide — because launch-day support will not be fast. The Discord and community channels page lists where other players are watching for announcements.
What do I do if the Play button is grey or the servers are full?
Three launch-day problems account for most of the first-hour reports, and all three have a known fix. Work down the list in order — the grey Play button is by far the most common. None of the three means the servers are down, and none of them is a reason to reinstall the client.
Why is the AION 2 Play button grey after pre-downloading?
Because Steam has not reloaded the update. Even with the client fully downloaded, AION 2 can appear in your library with a grey Play button while Steam still has the old build cached. Use Steam’s Exit command and reopen the app — simply closing the window is often not enough for Steam to reload and find the update. If you played the September 17–18 Launch Scale Test, this is also the symptom of having the separate Playtest app still installed: uninstall it, then let Steam re-detect the AION 2 client.
Why do I not have Advanced Access?
Advanced Access requires a Founder’s Pack bought before launch, and it is tied to the storefront you bought it on. Two naming traps produce most of the confusion: Steam labels the window Advance Access, while NCSOFT’s own announcements call it Advanced Access — same five days, two names. The second trap is buying on one platform and expecting it to work on the other; buy on Steam and you play on Steam, buy through PURPLE and you play through PURPLE. If your entitlement looks wrong, check the purchase receipt against the launcher you actually launch from before opening a ticket.
Why does AION 2 say servers are full?
Because the opening population exceeds server capacity on the servers you picked. NCSOFT’s stated policy is that when a server is at capacity, members in good standing join the priority queue rather than the general queue, and both queues move as space opens — so the queue is working as designed, not a bug. What is not guaranteed is priority: it is a privilege that can be revoked for disciplinary action or suspected Terms of Service violations. New servers were still being added during Advanced Access on September 30, so a full server is often a reason to switch, not to wait.
What is still unannounced?
The exact server-open hour and the preload date are no longer on this list, because NCSOFT has published both. The final world names for the global launch roster, the character pre-creation window and any console or mobile client are still unannounced. This section exists because these gaps are the details most likely to be invented elsewhere.
| Detail | Status as of September 30, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Exact server-open hour | Announced — October 5, 13:00 UTC (6:00 AM PDT) |
| Preload / pre-download date | Available since September 28, 2026 |
| Advance Access hours | Announced — 13:00 UTC September 30 to 05:00 UTC October 5 |
| Final world (server) names | Partially announced — the Advanced Access roster was published September 29 |
| Character pre-creation window | Not announced |
| Console or mobile client | Not announced — PC only |
On languages, the Steam store page lists eight: English, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian and Korean — with English, Japanese and Korean carrying full audio. Chinese is not among them, which matters if you planned to play alongside a Chinese-speaking group. NCSOFT’s June 5 press release separately mentioned ten in-game languages; that figure and the store list do not match, so we report the store data and flag the discrepancy rather than merging the two into one claim.
Which regions can play at launch?
The global service covers North America, South America, Europe, and Asia, on dedicated servers per region. The original April 2026 announcement named Japan specifically; the June press release broadened that wording to Asia. Server selection is permanent in most NC MMOs, and the roster is not public yet.
The practical advice is to wait for the world list rather than committing on the strength of a datamined name. We track what is confirmed on the server list and regions page.
Is the global version the same game as Korea and Taiwan?
No — and this is the single biggest source of bad information about AION 2 right now. The global service is a separate build with fresh progression, and it starts on a different content schedule than the KR/TW service that has been live since November 19, 2025.
That means any guide written from Korean or Taiwanese footage describes a version of the game you will not be playing on day one. Class balance, gear tiers, and progression pacing all differ. We break down exactly what diverges in Global vs KR/TW differences, and every page on this site labels whether a claim comes from official global sources, verified global play, or KR/TW reference material.
What should you do before October 5?
Pre-download the client now, keep the game wishlisted, sign up for the newsletter, check your machine, and pick a class skeleton — not a build that does not exist yet. All five are preparation you can do today, because pre-download is already available and the client is otherwise still unavailable.
- Pre-download the client on the storefront you will actually launch from. Pre-download has been available on Steam and PURPLE since September 28, and the files arrive encrypted and decrypt locally on September 30. Full walkthrough on the preload and download page.
- Uninstall the Launch Scale Test app if you played the September 17–18 test. Steam players must remove the separate Playtest client before Advanced Access; PURPLE players have no further steps.
- Wishlist the game on Steam (AppID 3393110). Wishlisting costs nothing and notifies you the moment the client is downloadable. It does not, on its own, grant any in-game reward.
- Sign up for the newsletter at aion2.plaync.com. Subscribers receive in-game launch gifts — the Pagati companion pet plus a choice of one further pet. See pre-registration rewards for what is confirmed.
- Check your machine against the PC system requirements. The official Steam sheet asks for a GTX 1050 Ti and 8 GB at minimum, an RTX 2070 and 16 GB recommended, and 100 GB of space — so launch night is not the first time you find out. Note also that the game is Windows only; no macOS or Linux client exists.
- Pick a class skeleton, not a build. There is no verified global tier list yet, because nobody outside Asia has played the retail build. The classes overview covers all eight launch classes by role and weapon, which is enough to choose a main without gambling on numbers that do not exist yet.
